As it was the Claire's birthday, she chose Stonehenge for this weekends little adventure away in the van. All packed up, we headed out Saturday morning for the 2 hour drive. the weather forecast wasn't looking too good but who cares when you have everything you need in a van to keep you warm and dry.
Not the cheapest of places to go see, but I guess it don't come cheap look after something like this. For the price, you get entry into the exhibition and bus transport to the stones.
There is a road which you could park on and walk to the stones for free via a public right of way if you really don't want to pay.
We decided to take the bus up to the stones and walk back to the visitor center via the scenic route which was about a 30 minute walk.
From here we jumped back in the van and took a short 10 minute drive to Woodhenge.
We had planned on staying at The Drove, a popular wild camping spot along a public byway that runs along the grounds where the stones are, but due to "Storm Freya" coming in, and the cross winds and no chance of any shelter, we decided against it so it was out with the phone and check out the amazing app Search For Sites for some local stop over places. We found a great little pub with their own little campsite about 20 minutes away.
THE WOODBRIDGE INN, PEWSEY
Perfect little stop over, £8 per night with EHU or just £6 without. They have a few hard standing areas, but we just turned up and all hard standing were already taken so we picked a nice level spot on the grass.
We can highly recommend this pub, the food was great, staff were really friendly, also for the overnight fee, you get toilets and exceedingly hot showers. The toilet/shower blocks are currently undergoing a refurb so at this time, only the ladies part are in working order but as they are all enclosed, separate cubicles, anybody can use use them.

That's it for this weekend, already started thinking of our next adventure, Elan Valley is currently sitting on top of our list, so until next time, happy travels everyone.
